Network-Level Malware Defense

Anti-malware protection is a security technology that detects and blocks malicious software — viruses, ransomware, trojans, spyware, and other threats — before they can reach your devices. Traditional antivirus software runs on each device and scans files after they arrive. Network-level anti-malware takes a different approach: it inspects traffic as it flows through the network, stopping threats upstream.

VeloGuardian's anti-malware protection is built into Cloud Shield and operates on all traffic passing through the VPN tunnel. Every file download, web request, and network connection is checked against continuously updated threat databases — without installing additional software on your devices.

How Anti-Malware Protection Works

When a device on your network requests a file or visits a website, the traffic passes through Cloud Shield before reaching the device:

  • Signature matching — Files and payloads are compared against databases of known malware signatures. Known threats are blocked instantly.
  • Heuristic analysis — Even if a file doesn't match a known signature, its behavior patterns and code structure are analyzed for suspicious characteristics.
  • URL reputation — Download sources are checked against databases of known malware distribution sites. Files from untrusted sources are flagged or blocked.
  • Real-time updates — Threat databases are updated continuously. When a new malware variant is discovered, protection is applied across the entire network within minutes.

What Anti-Malware Protects Against

VeloGuardian's anti-malware protection defends you against a wide range of threats:

  • Ransomware — Malware that encrypts your files and demands payment for the decryption key. Ransomware attacks can shut down entire businesses.
  • Trojans — Programs disguised as legitimate software that create backdoors for attackers to access your systems.
  • Spyware — Software that secretly monitors user activity, captures keystrokes, and steals credentials or sensitive data.
  • Worms — Self-replicating malware that spreads across networks without user interaction, potentially infecting every connected device.
  • Adware — Unwanted software that displays intrusive advertising and often bundles with other malicious components.
  • Cryptominers — Malware that hijacks your devices' processing power to mine cryptocurrency, degrading performance and increasing energy costs.

Why Network-Level is Better

Traditional endpoint antivirus has limitations that network-level protection addresses:

  • No software to manage — There's nothing to install, update, or troubleshoot on individual devices. Protection is applied automatically through the VPN tunnel.
  • Consistent coverage — Every device on your network is protected equally, regardless of operating system, device type, or whether local antivirus is running.
  • Stops threats upstream — Malware is blocked before it reaches the device. Even if a device has outdated local antivirus, network-level protection still applies.
  • No performance impact — Because scanning happens in the cloud, your devices' CPU and memory aren't consumed by antivirus processes.

Network-level anti-malware works best as a complement to endpoint protection — not a replacement. VeloGuardian adds a critical layer of defense that catches threats before they reach your devices.

Anti-Malware in VeloGuardian

VeloGuardian's anti-malware protection is enabled by default for all users and requires no configuration. It runs silently within Cloud Shield, scanning all traffic in real time. Administrators can view blocked threat reports from the central management dashboard.

Combined with DNS filtering, web filtering, and botnet protection, anti-malware is one layer in VeloGuardian's defense-in-depth approach to security.
